The Olde Farmhouse Christmas Market

Friday, November 30, 2012
Hi, my name is Jen and

Yep, I left my "real" desk job years ago so I could make stuff.  Buy and scavenge for old stuff, paint it, clean it, fix it, and try to get money for it.  And I LOVE it!

A few weeks ago, I got to share all my junk things with a whole bunch of people at the
Olde Farmhouse Christmas Market.

It was months of collecting and my self made job is actually a lot of work!

But thankfully it is work I love for the most part.

The market was open Friday night and all day Saturday and it was hoppin!  It was nice to see some familiar faces and some returning customers from the previous Olde Farmhouse Market  in June.

Once again, Leah and Barb who organize this event did a wonderful job and it was a huge success.  The venue was the perfect setting, along with all their thought out details and preparation.  I feel lucky to have been a part of it.

There was 40 vendors and a large variety of items. Each vendor had their own personal style, flare and craft.

It was definitely a good way to jump start the holiday season.

This cute little lace vintage purse went to a little girl who apparently has quite the large collect of handbags:)

And this funky vintage chair (which I got some grief over purchasing for it's "unique" flare lol), was the first piece of furniture I sold at the market.  Go figure!

Sharing a love for these these unwanted items and giving them a new chance, is one of the best things about what I do.

Just as the definition reads on my "Vintage" highboy dresser:)

I brought out the lights and had some elves:)

Kristy from brought a whole whack load of her treasures and handmade items so we had plenty for all seeking to find something unique and treasure.

I wish I would have taken a picture of her pickled presents:)

Thanks again to Leah and Barb for making this all happen and to everyone who came and supported all of us and our crafts!

And on a side note, thanks to all my peeps and followers on my blog and facebook page.  Today mentioned me, and apparently, I was their #1 means of external referrals for the month of November via my blog.
I feel special:)!

Pallet Sideboard

Wednesday, November 28, 2012

Once again, I've swapped out some of my furniture in my home for the something else.

This sideboard or sofa table has been custom built with pallet boards.

One of my future goals is to make time and find some resources (people) to help me learn more about wood working.  I would LOVE to be able to create more of my ideas and build all of these wonderful things I have dreamed up.  However, I am not willing to lose a finger trying to figure out how to use the power tools, saws etc.  So, until I get some wood working lessons, I beg and plead for others to help me.

I had probably asked my husband one too many times last year so my step-dad was next in line:)  Thankfully, he was happy to help!

I would have kept it longer except, my talented friend Kristy from mentioned she just finished this fantastic huge sofa table. (You can check out her blog for pictures)  She had seen my enormously long and somewhat large formal living / dining room and we had discussed my space planning and how awkward the room was.

Finding furniture that filled the space has been somewhat of a task over the last year or so. It's slowly coming together, but I'm still searching for chairs and a larger coffee table. I would also love to see new flooring and a new fireplace but those are all jobs I'm unable to do so until then, I can change the furniture cause that's one of the PROS of what I do!

This upcylced pallet board table has been dry brushed with white latex paint and waxed for protection.  I wanted the wood grain and plank boards to be featured and didn't want to hide them with a solid color.

There is an extra shelf below for baskets, blanks, books or more...

It measures 41"w x 15 1'2"d x 33" h.

Black Vintage Display Cabinet

Sunday, November 25, 2012

This is a gorgeous antique solid wood cabinet.  I can't take credit for this find though.  My mom picked it up and offered me a trade.  It was a done deal as soon as I saw it:) I love that I have people scouting out pieces for me!  I've had neighbors and friends pick up pieces for me at the store or contact me about something they've seen on the curbside nearby.  And I'm always appreciative of their finds!

It was a pukey peach color when it came to me...

It had a rich vintage feeling so I chose to paint it black and distressed it slightly.

It's great for display and staged here as a liquor cabinet but could be used in a bathroom for towels and linens or as a bookcase.

The inside is in excellent condition   The shelves are adjustable and have plate rails.

The wood detail on the glass door can be removed if desired.  It's a unique piece and has some beautiful carved detailing.

Measures 14" d x 30" w x 58 1/4" h.

Paris Grey Alphabet Chair

This chair is a few of my favorite things.

LOVE ASCP Paris Grey
LOVE this gorgeous alphabet script fabric.
LOVE the curvy lines and the design of the back!

Blue Robin Egg Vintage Dresser

This vintage dresser is in great condition and inside of the drawers are immaculately clean.  It is solid wood and the drawers slide perfectly.

It has been painted with a latex paint from Martha Stewart and distressed.  The creamy white base underneath the robin egg blue makes for some beautiful undertones with the distressing.

It measures 36 1/4" w x 18" d x 31" h.

Little old farmhouse

Friday, November 23, 2012

I know I've probably said this before and it probably won't be my last post that I repeat myself.  Along with too many of these :), spelling and grammar mistakes, bad photos and the list goes on.  But....

I'm in love with this simple little old farmhouse cupboard! If I could find a nook in my home for it, it would stay.

I will refrain from adding another ":)" at the end of that last sentence.

But, if I kept every piece of furniture along with everything "old" I bring home and fell in love with, my house would probably begin to look like this...

Which is somewhat acceptable in my garage but not so much inside.  And by acceptable, I mean to me but not to my husband.

Refraining from adding more:) and lol's.

So, for sale it is.

It has been painted with ASCP pure white and distressed to fit's it's old charming farmhouse character.  I added new hardware to pretty it up.

Who doesn't love shaker style paneling and some vintage rolling casters?!  They might not roll very smoothly but I always adore them:)  And if you don't, they can easily be removed.

This piece is small enough to use as a side or night table and good for a laundry room or bathroom.  It always amazes me when I sell a piece as to where it will end up.  It's often not even where I envisioned it but I'm always glad to breath some new life into a piece and see it go to a new home!

Measures 29" w x 16" d x 27 1/4" h.

More of the Sullivan Christmas Craft Fair

Wednesday, November 21, 2012
After months of early mornings, work filled days and evenings, my markets are finally done and I'm pooped!  It was a lot of work but I had fun, sold lots, got to meet great people and it was all worth it!

For those of you who made it to either markets I thank you for your support and I hope you found some treasures:)

All of you make what I do possible!  I left my job several years ago in healthcare not knowing what I was going to do next.  All I knew is that I wanted to do something creative.  I somewhat stumbled across this path and it's been a great journey thus far!

I love being able to create things and share them with you all.

And I also need to thank all of my friends and family that have supported me along this journey.  My mom, who has helped me in so many ways.  Watching my little ones, delivering furniture, helping me set up and so much more.  She even made these beautiful crystal Christmas ornaments:)

They are real crystal and are made from a large chandelier she dismantled.  Yes, she's crafty like me:)
And yes, there are more of these, if you would like some for your tree!

Also, a huge thank you to my husband and children who have put up with my mess all over the house, my constant working, moving my furniture here and there around the house and to my markets.  My neighbors and close friends who helped out however they could and came out to see me as well.

All of you are appreciated!
Thank you:)

Sullivan Christmas Craft Fair ~ 2012

Tuesday, November 6, 2012
Here's a quick post for the Sullivan Christmas Craft Fair I was in last Sunday.

It was another busy market day for me and lot's of people came out to support this event which raises money for Sullivan Elementary School.  I'm always overwhelmed with how kind and supportive these events turn out to be!

Here's a brief look at what I brought along with me.  Some of these items are sold and some will be coming to the Olde Farmhouse Market in two weeks:)

This vintage toy chest sold the day before the market after I posted my "sneak peak" post!  So I quickly filled up the spot with a few other pieces I had completed.

This gorgeous chair that has been painted with ASCP Paris Grey is still available....

This cute white distressed burlap stool is still looking for a new home.

And this cute children's chair was snatched up before my set up was even done:)

Thanks to everyone who made it out that day.  It's always nice to meet new people and see some familiar faces.  Hope to see you again at the Olde Farmhouse Christmas Market!

If you would like to inquire about any of these pieces, please email me at

What's up?!

Saturday, November 3, 2012
The past month has been very busy for me (not that there's ever a time life isn't busy), but busier due to  the markets and other work I have committed too.  Which has meant a lot of early mornings and late evenings.  I completed 8 custom pieces of furniture in one month along with all the other pieces and projects I have been working on for the markets and the store window at .

If you haven't been to Brick and Mortar Living, then now's the time with Christmas lurking around the corner:)  My display will be in the window until Nov.12/12, and if my "Vintage Dresser" does not sell while there, it will be coming to the market in two weeks from now.

Tomorrow I will be at the annual Christmas Craft Fair at the Sullivan Hall!

There is a variety of vendors and local artisans.  If you are one of my readers, here's the inside scoop on what I will be bringing with me:)!

Vintage toy box, children's chair, stools, dresser, sofa table, pillows, burlap table runners, milk glass, some gorgeous crystal Christmas ornaments my mom crafted up:), and many more upcycled items.

If you can't make it to the Sullivan Fair, then as mentioned above,  mark your calender for 2 weeks from now cause I will be at the, along with a huge group of other very talented people and their wonderful work.  What will I be bringing there?..... Dining room chairs, dressers, vintage cabinets, stools, benches, carts, crates, chairs, side tables and a whole bunch more!

Thanks for reading and your continued support!  It's means a whole bunch:)
