S Is For....

S is for...

Meet Shannon.  Well, this isn't Shannon but Shannon didn't really want her picture taken this morning after her kickboxing class:)
She is a friend of mine and she also happens to sell Stella and Dot jewelry, which I have a bit of a liking for.
Yes, today I"m sharing one of my secrets with you. I buy stella and dot jewelry and sometimes more than my husband would like or knows about....

This is another reason why I paint and sell furniture:) lol

Girls gotta do what a girls gotta do.  This girls loves a thrift store find but she also likes her jewels:)  ~ at affordable prices.

Like who wouldn't like this pretty little vintage inspired studs?:)

Anyways, over the last year Shannon has mentioned to me on more than one occasion how she would like to fix her office space.

This is how it looked prior.

She had mentioned that she would like a desk so she did not have to have her things all over the floor.

Which led to me finally going over one day to assess the "situation."

Her office space is located right off the front entry of her home with beautiful glass french doors but it definitely needed a little clean up:)

She had some couch cushions and furniture stacked in one corner, her sons hockey gear often on the floor as well as all her beautiful Stella stuff.

We began to discuss her work space and what she envisioned.  During this time, I noticed she had this gorgeous antique folding table folded up along the wall with an old printer sitting on it.  I asked her what this was and she told me it was an old piece that her husband got from someone and it basically was of no use.

HELLO!

There was the desk! Sitting there, waiting to be loved:)

It was the perfect piece, as she really didn't need an actual desk with drawers etc.  She needed a place to sit with her Ipad and complete some paperwork and somewhere for all those trays.

The table is great for this purpose, as she can open it up if needed and display all of the jewels easily.  And I love that she already owned it!

Her husband preferred to keep the table as is, so this is what we started with.

We started discussing details and ideas, and soon after she found this chair at Home Sense.

We then started the search on Craigslist for some kind of a hutch or buffet shelving unit.

Shannon found this little beauty and it works great in the space.

This is an antique piece but in excellent condition and the wood tone works well with the folding table.   No paint required at this time:)

And it provides a ton of storage for all her other office supplies etc.

Stella and Dot also carries various handbags, wallets and scarfs as well as jewelry.

Of course this room makeover was the perfect opportunity for me to start a new board on Pinterest...

I suggested a dress form for her space to display the scarfs and handbags, and she lucked out at Home Sense again!

The pillows are from Jysk, as well as the large gold standing mirror.

You might remember this little purple piece from one of my previous posts for sale:)  Shannon had purchased this a while back from me and it was kind of where the inspiration of the room began.

And of course, she needed her own monogram art for the room!  She had the perfect wall space for it and I've always wanted to make some kind of monogram art.

I told her I would make it for her, we just needed to find a frame with the right dimensions, and once again Home Sense came through!  This was a memo board, that I hand stenciled and painted out the frame black.

I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.  I actually wish my name started with an S....

J is fine, but O is definitely not the ideal letter for a custom monogram:)
No offence to the O's out there.  I'm one of them.

Oh, and paint of course!  I almost forgot.  The space had not been painted since the home was built and they moved in.

This is what it looked like before.

We chose a neutral light color as the furniture was dark and she had so many colorful things to display.

She had not painted before, so I offered up some of my supplies and service for a day:)

One coat down...

I think at this point Shannon was wondering why I talked her into painting the room. lol.  Painting is a bit of a daunting task and its not entirely fun.  BUT, it's very rewarding once completed!

Voila!

So, if you have a space that you think you would like to makeover but don't know where to start or think you can, you can!  Just start with one thing at a time. Clear your space out, and it will slowly come together!

and

If you haven't heard of Stella and Dot before, be sure to check out the link below.  You can learn more about how to order, or if you want to host a trunk show.  Its a great way to spend time with your lady friends, shopping for pretty things:)  And a bit more exciting then Tupperware? lol.

And of course, I highly recommend Shannon as shes a fantastic stylist:)

PAINTING UPHOLSTERY SUCCESS!!!!

Okay, I must get better at organizing my time for these posts!  I've been working on a little project for a friend today.  A custom monogram piece for her office space, which we painted last week.

Hopefully, she'll let me post some pics of her office makeover as soon as it's all complete.

Today, I'm sharing with you my first successful painting upholstery project!

When I say my first successful, that means, I have attempted this once before and it did not go so well:( But, that's a long story, which I don't have time for as I have to go pick up Brownie cookies for my daughter, cat food and various other errands to run this evening:)

Anywho, back to my post. This is the before picture of this gorgeous chair my girlfriend purchased a few months ago.  But, shortly after purchasing it, she decided it was not the right color for her home.

Before
So she asked me to paint it.  I was of course hesitant as my first project did not go well, but I was fairly confident that the issues I had previously were all due to the type of fabric, so I took a deep breath and hoped to heaven that I didn't mess this one up!

In progress

This is an in progress picture.  There are some more detailed tutorials on line if you are interested in trying this.

Basically, I used ASCP Pure white, watered down and just brushed it on thin and evenly.   I waited for it to dry in between coats.

You can lightly sand it if needed.

This is what it looked like after the first coat.  It actually looked better in person:)

After
And this is the finished product.  Once the paint dried, I distressed it and sealed it with several coats of clear wax.

I chose not to leave the fabric stark white and distressed it so you could see the grain slightly.  I felt this would be more forgiving for the owners, whom owned a not even one year old baby boy and 2 dogs:)   This is not the best picture for detail and the true color but you can get the general idea.

WASTE NOT WEDNESDAY

Wednesday, September 18, 2013
I broke down.

I tried to stay out of the thrift stores this month.

But, I caved.

I had to have them.

I don't know why.

But, I think I did fairly well, only coming home with these:)

A little bit of this and a little bit of that ~ French Provincial Coffee Table

Thursday, September 12, 2013
Sometimes I feel like I can't bare to paint another piece of furniture white.
SALTS

Via Pinterest
Yes, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE white.  But, a girl can only paint so many pieces of furniture white over and over until she needs a little somethin, somethin.

SOLD

I purchased this piece not too long ago and new it would look great white but me and stark white needed to take a break from each other.

And so one night I was laying in bed and the inspiration came to me.

But sometimes, my plans don't always work out the way I envisioned them.

But, that's not always a bad thing.

This is not what I had planned on, but I'm loving this three tone look.

It measures approximately 21" D x 49" L x 16" H.

What do you think?  I'd love to hear from you and see what appeals to you.  What colors would you like to see more of?:)

WASTE NOT WEDNESDAY

Once upon a time....

There was a baby "Lucas."

And I "Jentiques," was lucky enough to be a part in the making of this perfect little room:)

These two gorgeous pieces of furniture were originally in baby Lucas's dad's room when he was a wee one!!!

So this is where I got to help!

These were refinished using ASCP Paris grey with some white dry brushing.

Another upcycling project!

WASTE NOT WEDNESDAY ON A THURSDAY

Thursday, September 5, 2013
Well, back it was back to school for our household this week, which means back to some regular routines, earlier bedtimes, organization and all this was a bit of a shock to my system!

Hence, my Waste not Wednesday post being on a Thursday. lol

Yep, not used to paying attention to what day of the week it is.

We had an amazing family vacation the last week of August and it was the perfect way to end the summer holidays.

BUT....

I came home to a garden overloaded with veggies, including this cooler full of beans, which we have already put a slight dent in.  And this is a large cooler, not a picnic size folks.

So, I'm asking for your assistance.  Can anyone help me out with some healthy and or eat clean bean recipes that they have tried?:)  We've been eating beans several times a night for weeks already and I've got to find some new ways to liven them up!

Thanks!
